¡á 2026 The Netherlands Embassy - DMZ Docs Co-production Fund (Korea) Selection Committee Statement

DMZ Docs operates a co-production support fund in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Korea, aiming to vitalize co-production between documentary filmmakers of both countries and promote the international advancement of Korean documentaries. Following last year, this year's second open call received projects featuring diverse themes and perspectives. The selection committee comprehensively evaluated the timeliness of the subjects and themes, approaches, production completion, and suitability for co-production, ultimately selecting two feature-length films as supported projects.

The first selected project, <Voyages of Nutmeg (Working Title)> (Director: IM Goeun), stands out for its organic connection between colonial history and community memory. The director's experience of working across Korea and the Netherlands adds a fresh perspective and persuasiveness to this approach, and its collaborative structure crossing nations, histories, and cultural backgrounds, alongside its experimental cinematic approach, was evaluated as a prime example demonstrating the purpose of this co-production support program.

The second selected project, <Roro> (Director: SEOL Suan), demonstrates the potential to resonate with audiences through compelling subjects and stories. The collaboration between the Korean director and the Dutch producer is expected to add new possibilities to the work based on their respective artistic capabilities and production experiences. We hope this support serves as an opportunity to further materialize the collaboration between the production teams of both countries, faithfully realizing the purpose of co-production.
