Online Screening Program
This year, the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival presents two online programs through its official platform, docuVoDA. The first is Far from Palestine, Close to Images, devoted to Palestinian visual artist Basma al-Sharif. Moving across film, installation, writing, and photography, al-Sharif combines a precise visual language and black humor with a subtle sensitivity to landscape and sound. Traversing cinema screens and white cubes, her work imaginatively constructs images of Palestine from outside its territory, remapping familiar geographies into something strange and new. Rather than dwelling on the representation of tragedy, she extends the territory of the image and enacts a politics of images that responds to history and violence. The program presents ten poetic and lyrical shorts.
DMZ Docs also continues Short Is Beautiful, its online short-film program launched two years ago. Bringing together shorts invited to the Korean Competition, Korean Non-Competition, and special programs, it shares the experimental aesthetics of short documentary beyond the physical limits of the theater. Online, viewers can encounter a wider range of concise yet richly layered works engaging with contemporary sensibilities and concerns.
