SYNOPSIS
An island exists, surrounded by a river of cars. On that island is a person trying to escape. This is the story of Mee-hee, a corporate whistleblower who fought to survive at the center of a perilous intersection. Her company tried to silence her. She fought back.

In every city, there are solitary figures who stand as islands of resistance, waging quiet battles against injustice even when unseen. The Island of Mee-Hee follows Park Meehee, a former Kia Motors employee who has spent over a decade demanding reinstatement after being fired the day after reporting corruption at a company dealership. Her voice—suppressed by the machinery of capital and power—continues to resonate from her solitary vigil in the heart of the city. Facing her is a formidable alliance of corporate forces, backed by media, police, and government, working to isolate her. Men in dark suits, symbols of systemic suppression, attempt to confine her to a so-called “safe zone” that offers no safety, only deeper alienation. Yet the film’s camera does more than record this cold cityscape.
Rather than portraying her as a figure cut off from society, it frames Park’s defiance as a necessary act of solidarity with others silenced by power. In transforming her isolation into a universal call for justice, The Island of Mee-Hee reveals the courage it takes to confront a society unwilling to hear uncomfortable truths. With quiet intensity, it stands as a testament to the enduring power of one woman’s voice against the weight of systemic erasure.
DIRECTOR'S NOTE
My work is oriented towards a cinema that persists in the rescue of collective memory, in a dialogue between direct recording and the search for different ways of representing the historical world through visual experimentation. My works travel through different regions, focusing on making visible environmental and socio-political conflicts, which open the debate on our cultural and social practices. The documentary approach allows me to talk about political and social issues, to promote collective memory, and to debate necessary reflections on our society.
