¡®Verite¡¯ means ¡®truth¡¯ in French, and the nearly established ¡®Verite¡¯ section of DMZ Docs introduces films dedicated to the original value of documentaries that discover and explore the truth. This section covers both cinéma vérité and direct cinema in the documentary trend. If direct cinema excludes elements that reveal the involvement of the director, such as interviews, narration, and music, and emphasizes events discovered only through the words and actions of the subject, cinéma vérité did not stop at watching the subject but took a method in which the director intervened in the incident and stimulated and triggered the subject's actions through dialogue or interviews. DMZ Docs does not see these two approaches as simple confrontations but recognizes them as the choice of documentary artists to get closer to the truth hidden beneath reality. ¡®Verite¡¯ will be able to encompass a wide range of the still value, interest, and charm of documentaries that faithfully record characters, events, or social issues by observing and analyzing them.
